Everything you need to know about using Relay.

Getting Started

1. Connect Your Wallet

Click "Connect Wallet" and approve the connection with Phantom, Solflare, or another Solana wallet. Your wallet address becomes your identity on Relay.

2. Sign In

Sign a message to verify ownership of your wallet. This is free and doesn't cost any SOL. Your session lasts 7 days.

3. Start Messaging

Use Compose to send messages to any Solana wallet address. If the recipient hasn't joined yet, your message will be waiting when they do.

Trust System

Relay uses a trust score system to route messages. Your trust score determines where your messages land in recipients' inboxes.

Known (70+)

Messages go directly to Primary inbox. Built through positive interactions.

Established (30-69)

Messages go to Requests. Recipients can move you to Known by replying.

Unknown (0-29)

Must pay a stamp fee to send. This prevents spam and compensates recipients.

Fees

Platform Stamp Fee

A small SOL fee (0.0001 SOL) paid when messaging new or untrusted recipients. This prevents spam and funds platform development.

Recipient Inbox Fee

Recipients can set their own inbox fee in Settings. This fee goes directly to them when strangers message them. Set your own price for your attention.

Usernames

Claim a @username in Settings to make it easier for others to message you. Instead of sharing your full wallet address, share @yourname.

  • One username per wallet
  • 7-day cooldown between changes (or pay 0.1 SOL to skip)
  • 3-32 characters, letters, numbers, and underscores only
  • Attach multiple wallets to receive messages across all of them

End-to-End Encryption

Enable E2EE in Settings to encrypt your messages. When both you and your recipient have E2EE enabled, messages are encrypted before leaving your device.

  • Uses NaCl/X25519 cryptography
  • Keys derived from your wallet signature
  • Server cannot read encrypted message content
  • Look for the lock icon on encrypted messages

Telegram Bot

Link your Telegram account in Settings to receive notifications and reply to messages from anywhere.

  • Get notified of new messages
  • Reply directly from Telegram
  • Works with @RelayInboxBot

Safety Tips

  • Never share your seed phrase. Relay will never ask for it.
  • Be cautious with links from unknown senders. Links are hidden by default.
  • Block suspicious senders using the Block button in conversations.
  • Enable E2EE for sensitive conversations.
